An Unholy & Evil Alliance
It has been reported that Iran and Syria have been approached by Iraq to broker a peace agreement. Supposedly these two countries will be the ones to answer the unending unrest in Iraq and find everlasting peace. Some American leaders have even applauded this idea.
For the life of me, I don’t believe the reports but it is true. Can you imagine for a moment the following scenario? Adolph Hitler and Mussolini being asked to brokerage a major peace plan for Europe. Impossible, you would think. But tragically that is exactly what is happening in the Middle East. Iran and Syria represent the epitome of evil, something like a modern day Hitler or Mussolini.
The Iranian leadership, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is openly flaunting all laws of decency. He claims that the Holocaust of the Jews never took place. His country has the right to nuclear power as he wants to build an atom bomb. Frighteningly he preaches hatred to the west. Lastly, he believes that Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, must be destroyed.
On the other hand Syria is listed as a most belligerent country offering a haven to the al-Qaida, militant Shiites, Islamic suicide bombers, and is a source of Katusha rockets and planned assassinations of Lebanese leaders and moderates.
How in the world can any thinking person believe that by inviting the haters of peace, destroyers of democracy and suppliers of terrorist groups bent on havoc bring stability to Iraq?
Our great country has embarked on a program of emancipation for the Iraqi people. We have invested billions of dollars, committed over 140,000 American forces and have sustained a death toll of 2,860 fighting men and women. We are now in the fourth year of fighting for Iraqi stability. We wish the Iraqi people well and hope to help them establish law and order. Now we are told that America can’t do the job. Their invitation to Syria and Iran will be better than what they have now. They claim that America cannot find peace for their country. This is a big insult and a challenge to our integrity.
This debate is a no-brainer. You can’t ask a police officer to leave a victim of rape with the rapist or a murderer. Thinking that the perpetuators of violence with their depraved thinking will figure out justice is nonsense. I am frightened that Syria and Iran may very well free Sadaam Hussein and return him to power, claiming that Iraq would be safer than ever.
As a youngster in Yeshiva, a Jewish parochial school, my Rebbe, teacher, taught us about the lion lying with the lamb. He claimed that it is only possible if you replace the lamb each morning. Like Hitler of old and Mussolini the fascist, peace in their time meant World War II. So too a peace agreement brokered by Iran and Syria will lead us to greater conflict and world instability. Remember, no good comes from people that show no respect for democracy by claiming that their way is the only way.
It is true that new plans for Iraq are of utmost importance but when the house is on fire you don’t just take any liquid and throw it on the fire as you may end up grabbing some gasoline thereby increasing the flames. America must be prudent in this quest for peace and bring our forces home gracefully and safely.
Let’s hope that our great government will be firm in this matter and finish the job as soon as possible.
