Cure for Diseased Morals
Some believe that by promoting embryonic stem-cell research we will scientifically be able to cure diseases. Alzheimers, diabetes, Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, and cancer will be diseases of the past. I too pray for the end of suffering and disease. How wonderful the world will be. Civilization will have a great future and longevity.
However, I wonder of the moral implications. There are many questions regarding stem-cell research. When and where life begins are questions begging for an answer. So far there are none. Religious and scientific world leaders are on a collision course. There is no uniform census for this contemporary dilemma. Tirades are heard daily by Republicans, Democrats, and secular organizations. No qualified guidelines are being proposed.
I await the dawn when we all get along, making peace between all the parties involved, weaving the cold intellectual brain to the tempests’ heart. A harmony of religion and science, tolerance and calmness. Until that happens I suggest a stem-cell research for morals. The new cell would be named M.S.C., Moral Stem-Cell and would rejuvenate our moral values and reset our moral compass.
We are suffering from moral Alzheimers. It is a disease that surfaces as we age. The first signs manifest by forgetting our parents, grandparents and noble heritage. For example, an Alzheimers victim forgets all sacrifices made by others and has selective short term, and perhaps long term memory lapses. To correct this debilitating disease an M.S.C., moral stem-cell, would be injected rebuilding the patient’s connection to the past, enabling them to give respect and dignity to those deserving.
A person suffering from a moral diabetic disease has a major breakdown in his body, causing a lack of control on passion or lust and disequilibrium between body and soul. The injection of M.S.C. would put a governor on passion and would sensitize our souls to the right things. Spiritual foods enriched with knowledge of right and wrong would stabilize the body.
Moral Parkinsons disease and other similar nerve suffering ills would be treated with M.S.C. that would cause lethargy and fatigue for dishonesty and vigor and alertness for proper values.
Perhaps we could apply M.S.C. to our political system. Recently a Boston Globe Reporter revealed that Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry had a Jewish grandfather. He was born Jewish but died Catholic. It seemed that the elder Kerry had changed his name from Kohn to Kerry when he moved from Europe. When members of the Kerry family were asked about the Jewish ancestry the answers were moral Alzheimers. John said, “Never really focused on it.” Or as sister Diana said, “We didn’t really go there.”
Why not? The best way to cure a bad case of Alzheimers is to go there and learn about your heritage. A good injection of M.S.C. may even make your life more meaningful and happy. It is incredible how people in the political arena suffer from this awful disease, moral Alzheimers, forgetting the parents’ or grandparents’ religious ancestry.
Not too long ago former Secretary for State Madeline Albright was also stricken with this disease when she was told that her family had Jewish ancestry and partly perished in the Holocaust.
It would be wise to invest energy and enlist the help of politicians, religious leaders, and scientists to support the M.S.C. program, as it will surely ease suffering and moral decadence. I am sure that by rejuvenating good moral cells this world will be a great place to live in.
