Morals and Monkey Business

Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881), the 19th century British statesman, said, "I have always thought that every woman should marry, and no man."  This Political correctness and a double standard come to mind when thinking of President Clinton. His refusing to cooperate nor admit a sexual relationship with a 21 year old is outrageous.

Remarkably, President Clinton raises piles of money despite the scandal. It makes no difference whether he is guilty or if you believe in him, he claims to have more important things to take care of.  He has to run the country.

Thinking about Ms. Lewinsky it is interesting to note her happiness with her immunity deal with independent counsel Ken Starr. But I wonder about this new deal.

I don't understand what kind of  mother collects a semen-stained dress for her daughter and seeks immunity.  Washing your laundry in public has a new meaning!  I also wonder if Monica's parents sought immunity from God for bringing up a daughter who allegedly had an affair with the president of the United States.  Just listen to the foul language on the recorded tapes between her and her friend, Linda Tripp, and you realize that there is a lot to be desired.  Where did Monica learn such behavior? How did this ever happen to the Lewinsky family?  I am sure they wanted their children to grow up morally.  I Don't think that this is an isolated issue.

Ex-representative, John Schmitz, a former state senator, has a daughter, Mary Kay LeTourneau.  She is serving a seven year, five month prison term for second degree child rape.  She is also expecting her second child by the same youngster whom she seduced in 1996 when she was his teacher.  Mary Kay LeTourneau told her father that she was going to leave her husband, Steve, for her student who is underage.

Schmitz said after you are married we will take this to the Governor and ask for a pardon.  Schmitzs political career ended in scandal.  He had a mistress, a former student and two illegitimate children.  Sometimes the apple doesnt fall far from the tree.  Yes, scandal affects all positions, people, races and political persuasions.

Why is society backsliding on issues of respect and morals?

As each generation changes, morality changes.  This may have started when science decided that man evolved from the monkey.  This secular concept has resulted in children thinking they are wiser than their parents.  The evolutionists theory is that man is constantly improving each ensuing generation.  Grandchildren are more perfect, more understanding, better developed than their grandparents since they have progressed generations from their animal ancestors.  The further down the evolutionary tree the smarter we are supposed to be.

However, this is not so.  On the contrary, this process of time, causing a spiritual erosion, maybe why we are willing to make allowances for Monica, and the president.

In the Jewish religion we believe that the heroes of the Bible were really closer to God.  Our generation is further removed from spirituality than our parents and grandparents.  No matter how much greatness we achieve or how smart we become, we are, nonetheless, further from Adam's generation.  The first man who was created by God, received a spiritualness that has never been ever experienced by the later generations.

Recent polls show that whether Clinton is guilty or not we want him to lead the country.  We have ambiguous feelings at best towards mans moral position in an ever-changing world.

I have an octogenarian friend who claims that evolution works in reverse - we are becoming monkeys.  As we progress we still haven't graduated from our animal desires.
